The central privacy promise: BetterTalk does not retain conversation audio or transcripts. Deepgram receives audio to transcribe it. Anthropic receives transcript text to analyze it. Nobody at BetterTalk can pull up your conversation through a product, developer, or support tool.
1. Scope
This notice applies to the BetterTalk website, Mac app, accounts, billing, and support. It does not cover a third-party service's own website or an email provider you choose to use.
2. Information we process
Depending on how you use BetterTalk, we may process:
- Account and device information: email address, account identifiers, registered-device information, and device status.
- Subscription information: if you complete checkout, plan, entitlement, usage, transaction status, and payment-provider identifiers. Stripe processes your payment-card details. BetterTalk does not store full card numbers.
- Operational information: conversation duration, provider and model used, latency, status, token counts, estimated cost, and content-free security events.
- Support information: your email address and whatever you choose to include when you contact us. Please do not email recordings, transcripts, passwords, private relationship details, or payment-card information.
- Website request information: the hosting provider processes basic request data such as IP address, browser information, requested page, and timestamp to deliver and protect the site.
The public website has no behavioral analytics, session replay, advertising pixels, marketing cookies, or cross-site tracking.
3. Conversation content
Both people must visibly consent before recording starts. The app sends audio directly to Deepgram for transcription and speaker separation. BetterTalk servers do not receive the audio.
Speaker-labeled transcript text passes through a narrowly scoped BetterTalk relay to Anthropic for analysis. The relay validates and forwards the request without logging or storing the transcript. Account, device, email, billing, and session identifiers are excluded from the content sent to Anthropic.
Useful derived results return to the Mac and are encrypted locally. BetterTalk does not retain the audio, transcript, prompt containing your words, or analysis output in its control plane. Spoken content can still identify people even when account identifiers are removed.
See Security & Privacy for the complete data path, provider retention details, and the limits of this architecture.
4. How we use information
We use the limited information described above to operate accounts, provide and secure the Service, measure entitlement usage, process subscriptions, respond to support, investigate abuse or technical failures, comply with law, and improve content-free product operations. The recording agreement is acknowledged locally in the Mac app rather than stored as conversation content on BetterTalk servers.
BetterTalk does not sell conversation content or personal information. We do not use conversation content for advertising.
6. Retention
BetterTalk does not retain conversation audio or transcripts. Temporary conversation material on the Mac is deleted after processing, with a startup cleanup for temporary items older than 24 hours. Locally encrypted derived results remain on the Mac until you delete them or remove the app.
Content-free provider and security telemetry is kept for up to 90 days by default. We keep account, subscription, transaction, and support information for as long as needed to provide the Service, maintain business and tax records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal obligations. Retention can vary when law requires a longer or shorter period.
Provider retention is described on the Security & Privacy page. Anthropic's standard commercial API policy permits retention for up to 30 days.
7. Your choices and requests
You can choose not to record, stop a recording, remove locally stored results, cancel a subscription, or stop using the Service. Both participants may withdraw recording consent at any time.
You may ask to access, correct, or delete account information by emailing [email protected]. We may need to verify the request. Some information may be retained when required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, tax, or transaction-record purposes. Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights and a right to appeal a decision about a request.
8. Security
BetterTalk uses technical and operational safeguards designed to separate conversation content from account and billing systems. Useful derived results are encrypted locally, temporary files are protected and deleted, provider access uses scoped credentials, and the control plane rejects content-bearing metadata.
No system can guarantee perfect security. Protect your Mac, account credentials, and email account, and contact us if you believe someone has accessed your account without permission.
9. Age limit
BetterTalk is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or participate in a recorded conversation through the Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes and contact
We may update this notice as the Service or law changes. We will post the revised notice and change the effective date. We will provide additional notice when required for a material change.
